As Venterra continues to expand, we are on the lookout for a Project Management & Project Excellence Lead to join our Design Service Line.  

The Venterra Design Service Line incorporates the design and analysis of foundations and substations for Floating and fixed Offshore Wind, Monopiles and Jackets, T&I, Onshore and Offshore substation design and Onshore Renewables. The selected candidate will be employed through Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions (GDG) and will work from either our Cork, Dublin, Belfast, London or Edinburgh office. 

Role Description:

Oversee & drive project excellence within the Service Line business. Review and implement continuous improvement in project management best practices, processes and team competencies within the organisation, projects and delivery teams. Support and advise the Senior Management Team in monthly review processes. 

Take a lead role on projects to ensure that engineering projects operate as effectively and efficiently ensuring successful scope delivery to time, cost and quality, including project financial management and client satisfaction through project delivery. 

Key Responsibilities:

Project Excellence Implementation across the Service Line:

  • Instigate, oversee and implement business improvement and change programmes in relation to project management delivery, culture and processes. 
  • Assess, promote and implement Project Management best practices across the Service Line for continuous improvement, including project management procedures, tooling and risk management processes. 
  • Assess, promote and manage Project Management skills, resources, competency and staff training across the Service Line. 
  • Organise monthly project forecast and project health check reviews on the portfolio of Service Line department projects, including running meetings, reporting progress and interventions into the Service Line Director. 
  • Establish relationships with the client procurement and project teams and to track the progress of invoices and cashflow 
  • Build close working relationship with Finance Support Group  
  • Acting as Project Director providing on-going assistance, steering and mentoring to junior PM’s on projects 
  • Support and direct other project managers to take effective project management decisions by the provision of simple and clear analysis of the project financial and programme performance, 
  • Assessment and selection of suppliers and other partners, 
  • Proactively alert project management team to programming, financial or QSHE concerns as and when they arise 

 Project Execution

Project Proposal & Planning: 

  • Proposal writing and inputs on scope, pricing and delivery methodology 
  • Formulate the project plan (including resourcing, planning, risk mitigation, quality control and organisational requirements); and 
  • Draft the budget and acquire approval, in line with project objectives, to ensure efficient and effective project execution. 

Project Delivery: 

  • Lead delivery of the project, managing time, cost and quality of scope 
  • Coordinate the activities of the project teams and between disciplines,  
  • Oversee technical management and standards with Technical Directors 
  • Monitor and communicate the progress of project and assure compliance with HSEQ,  
  • Manage and mitigate project risks and resources, and create risk awareness among stakeholders,  
  • Manage interfaces and adjust project plan when necessary 
  • Ensuring effective reporting procedures are followed, proactively working with the team to prepare monthly forecasting and resource planning 
  • Progress monitoring of deliverables using earned value analysis 
  • Oversee project scheduling 
  • Proactively ensuring all invoicing procedures are followed, being the first line of contact with the client on invoicing and payment. 

Project Closure: 

  • Hand over project deliverables to relevant users/management, confirm acceptance and satisfaction, 
  • Evaluate the project with the involved stakeholders, to ensure the project is properly closed, handed over to others; and  
  • Ensure that relevant lessons learned are summarised and shared.

Project Information: 

  • Preparation of project progress reports  
  • Gathering, analysis and dissemination of relevant quantitative and qualitative data to provide insight into project developments, and to be used for decision making; and  
  • Generating reports as required from the financial management system. 

It is expected that this role requires approximately 60% of time spent on project work.  This is a complex role with a wide variety of duties as set out above.

Education/Qualifications:

  • Chartered Engineer  
  • Professional certification in Project Management (IPMA, APM or similar) 

Additional Requirements:

  • Candidates should also be highly organised and motivated individuals with effective communication skills, a good work ethic, and a commitment to technical excellence, personal efficiency, and career progression. 
  • Candidates should be willing to travel to and work on remote sites away from the office location. 
  • GDG supports hybrid working while to ensure we maintain a dynamic office environment but candidates will be expected to be linked and work from a permanent office for 2/3 days per week.
