Find out moreIsle of Arran Distillers Ltd has committed to both prioritising environmental sustainability in its operations and promoting these values across the sector. GDG were commissioned to undertake an assessment of the operational carbon footprint of the Lochranza and Lagg Distilleries.
Based on the success of its first environmental strategy, the Scotch Whisky Association is now aiming to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040: a target date which is five and ten years sooner than those set by the Scottish and UK Governments. With a renewed focus on emissions reduction, UK distilleries are increasingly looking towards alternative sources of process heat and this push towards decarbonisation has been strengthened by the UK Government’s recent allocation of £10 million in research funding.
Distilleries across Scotland are taking additional steps to estimate their carbon footprints, which will enable their owners and operators to identify and prioritise opportunities for emissions reduction.
GDG were appointed to undertake an assessment in accordance with the methods recommended in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol’s Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standard at both Lochranza and Lagg Distilleries.
