Spain and Portugal: Riding the Wave of Offshore Wind Growth
The Spanish and Portuguese offshore wind markets are poised for significant growth over the coming years. Ambitious 2030 targets and recent Government initiatives to drive development within the industry are accelerating activity. The region is known for its strong winds and deep waters, making it an exciting environment for offshore wind projects.
At GDG, we have a team of expert engineers and scientists based in Spain and Portugal with significant global experience coupled with valuable local market knowledge. Our teams are experienced in delivering offshore wind projects around the world, many with difficult ground conditions, variable bathymetry, a wide range of geohazards and challenging environmental factors. This experience is matched by their knowledge of local ports & harbours, marine regulations, grid and development procedures within Spain and Portugal. Our local experts have already worked on offshore wind and other energy projects in the Portuguese Atlantic and the Mediterranean Coast, off Spain. As the market starts to accelerate, we look forward to building on our market position.
Due to the deep waters in the region, floating offshore wind will play a significant role, in fact, Spain and Portugal aspire to become a European benchmark for this technology. At GDG, we are proud to be at the forefront of floating offshore wind developments, with our floating engineering team supporting projects off the Atlantic coast as well as more recently for floating sites on the US West Coast. Members of our Ground Modelling, Ports & Harbours and Transportation & Installations teams completed studies on the Humboldt and Morro Bay areas, off the Californian Coast ahead of the December 2022 auction.
At GDG, we’re delighted to support the offshore wind industries in Spain and Portugal with our expertise which spans from inception to decommissioning. If you’d like to find out more about the services we offer the offshore wind industry, email sales@gdgeo.com.
